I hate war. The men who start it have the luxury of looking back and changing their views on it, admitting it was a mistake, saying what they would do differently, but the boys they sent off to die don't get that luxury. The powers that be in former states of the Confederacy are free to decide that they no longer wish to honor the sacrifices they compelled their citizens to make, but they damn well better look with reverence on the monuments to those who didn't live long enough to see the world change.
